Make a Splash with Hydra River Guides

Looking for a unique way to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, family reunion or host a bachelor/bachelorette party that your guests are sure to remember? Make a splash with a rafting trip from Hydra River Guides!

Banff is one of Canada’s biggest outdoor playgrounds, full of places to explore, sights to see, and more. For those looking to hit the mountains to celebrate together and mark a special occasion with a twist, whitewater rafting is the perfect way to bring your group together (after all, those rapids aren’t going to conquer themselves!), share a ton of laughs, and experience the Rockies like never before. Are you new to rafting or unsure of what to expect? Not to worry, we’ve got you covered. Check out our quick guide to rafting the Kicking Horse below!

Where is the Kicking Horse River?

If you’re new to the area, you might know that the Kicking Horse River is actually located about 90 minutes West of Banff in Golden, BC (shuttles are available for select trips). Rafters with Hydra River Guides are treated to an exclusive River Base located right on the riverbank, meaning you get more time on the water, and most trips include a delicious BBQ lunch.

Who Can Raft?

Our trips are suitable for rafters of all experience levels, with the minimum age and weight requirement being 6+ and at least 50lbs.

Is it Cold?

Yes. The Kicking Horse River is 100% fuelled by nature and fed by glacial runoff. This means that the water tends to be chilly, even on hot days. Rafters are typically able to stay cozy in the provided wetsuits, neoprene booties, fleece sweaters, and spray jackets.

Will My Group Be Able to Stay Together?

Hydra River Guides is happy to accommodate group requests. Each raft typically seats 8, so if your group is larger, you’ll be split up into smaller groups to a make sure there’s room for everyone!

Is it Safe?

Yes, provided you and your crew follow the instruction and lead of our rafting team. We put safety first on every single trip, pairing crews with some of the most experienced guides on the River. While nature can be unpredictable, your guide is trained to deal with almost every scenario which is why paying attention to their calls, rules, and instructions is imperative to a safe, unforgettable journey!
